Eligibility
- For IAS / Civil Services: Graduate degree in any discipline from a recognised university
- For IFS: Graduate degree with one of the subjects such as Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Zoology or Agriculture/Forestry/Engineering
- Final-year students can apply provisionally if they can produce proof of passing before the Main exam

Exam Pattern
- Prelims – Two papers (General Studies I & CSAT)
- Paper-II (CSAT) is qualifying in nature
- Mains – Nine papers including essay, GS, optional subjects
- Interview / Personality Test after Mains
Important Rules (2026 Cycle)
- Candidates already appointed as IAS or IFS officers are **not eligible** to appear in CSE-2026 unless they resign from service
- IPS and other Group-A officers have restrictions on re-appearing under certain conditions
- Number of attempts & eligibility conditions are specified in the official notification
